RF overlay Solution
MAXON Telecom RF Overlay Solution
The RF Overlay Solution is a hybrid technology that integrates PON-based packet services with RF-based video broadcasting, enabling operators to deliver both high-speed data and traditional video services over a unified fiber infrastructure.
This solution is particularly beneficial for cable operators that have historically provided video services over HFC networks. By adopting MAXON’s RF overlay architecture, operators can maintain their existing RF video services while simultaneously deploying high-speed broadband access through PON technology.
To implement the RF Overlay Solution, the following key components are required:
(1) Video Overlay ONT (Optical Network Terminal)
An ONT equipped with a triplex optical module that supports PON upstream/downstream communication and converts received optical video signals into RF output for end-user devices.
(2) Optical Amplifier for Video Overlay (EDFA with WDM)
An Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) integrated with Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology. This device amplifies the optical video signal and combines it with PON data wavelengths for simultaneous transmission over a single fiber.
(3) RF Optical Transmitter
A device that converts RF video signals into optical signals, enabling long-distance transmission over fiber networks with high signal integrity.
With MAXON Telecom’s RF Overlay Solution, service providers can efficiently deliver Triple Play Services (Data, Voice, Video) while optimizing infrastructure investment and ensuring seamless migration from legacy systems to next-generation fiber networks.
